Published guidance from APRB about CKYC registration and your KIN.
CKYC (Central Know Your Customer) is a centralized database of KYC records of customers taking financial services from banks, insurance companies, non-banking financial companies and other financial institutions.
CKYC or KIN (KYC Identification Number) is a unique 14-digit identifier generated for an individual on completing KYC formalities at the time of account opening or updation with a financial institution.
Once your KYC details are registered with CKYC, you receive a unique KIN. You can quote this number when establishing a new financial relationship or opening an account with financial institutions without submitting KYC documents again, provided there has been no change in your KYC document.
Financial institutions regulated by RBI, SEBI, IRDAI and PFRDA can register customers under CKYC. When you opt for a financial product or service from these institutions, such as a bank, credit-card or demat account, an insurance policy or mutual-fund investment, they may register your KYC with CKYC.
When you opt for a financial product or service from an institution regulated by RBI, SEBI, IRDAI or PFRDA, that institution registers your KYC details with CERSAI (Central Registry of Securitisation and Asset Reconstruction and Security Interest of India).
Upon successful registration, you receive a unique KIN. Once the KIN is generated or updated, CERSAI sends an SMS or email to your registered mobile number or email ID.
You can check your CKYC number by visiting your home branch.
You receive a CKYC download notification when an institution downloads your KYC record from CKYCR using your KYC Identification Number. This may be done to update existing CKYCR records using the latest KYC document you submitted for a credit-card application, periodic KYC renewal or change of residential address.
